Description: Poetry is an expression from deep within the soul. It can be therapeutic and healing. It can bring out all the best or the worst in life. Her poetry comes from the heart, not the head. It is an outpouring of emotion and she exposes it to reader in the pages.

Tanka: Choose Joy

Joy hides in the dark
It lights the way of the lost
A firefly spark
Born to chase the pain away
Dark conquered by choosing joy

The 411: I always remember that no matter how dark things appear the light of joy will shine through. And I think joy is a choice we must make each day. Even if it’s in something small and mundane, we just need to choose to find the joy in the moment.

Takeaway 10 Challenge: 75 Words

She watched in fascinated horror as waves of asphalt undulated. The earth tremored with throbbing aftershocks. Her teeth spastically clenched of their own volition as her small body was tossed in the air by the serpentine pavement.

She landed with a bone jarring thud. With a soft whimper, she curled herself into a fetal position. Screams were ricocheting off the buildings that still remained standing.

Maybe if she closed her eyes it would disappear…she prayed.

Divergent Lives


two divergent lives
dwelling in one soul
conflicted by their
tormented thoughts

strangers on a
different journey
than the one that
was begun together

the lost one
desires to remain
unfound in darkness
hidden by shadows

the unlost one
seeks the light
naked in brightness
revealed by truth

no possibility that
polar opposites can
abide in harmony
and cohesive wholeness

it’s time to say bye
to the part of me
that is lost
traveling the other road…

Walking in the Light design and publishing

I’m really excited I’ve just completed my first “real” design and publishing job!

Zoe from behindthemaskofabuse and I have been working on a poetry book together for awhile.  The book, Hope’s Flight, is now for sale on both SmashWords and Amazon.

Hope'sFlight layersWhile I was a co-author on this project, I also had the privilege of being the cover designer and publisher.  I recently started a small design and publishing company Walking in the LightThis means that I had the opportunity to be involved with the project from all angles.  My company purchased the ISBN and royalty free photos, provided formatting for the e-book (printed copy is production), and designed the book cover.

Walking in the Light is all about a personal touch with authors who are interested in self-publishing.  While Hope’s Flight was my first complete project, I’ve already talked to a writing group here in Florida.  I’m working with a couple of the people helping them with their publishing needs and I’m going to be designing author blogs for them.  Later on this fall, I will be speaking to a Creative Writing class at the local college about self-publishing, cover design, and author blogs.  I’ve also received an invitation to speak to another local Writer’s Group.  I’m very excited about this.

This is all new territory for me, but I really enjoy the design and publishing side of the creative process.  I’m not sure where this will all lead.  What I do know is that it won’t lead anywhere if I don’t step out in faith.  So, Hope’s Flight was me taking that first step!
